  RE:  2008 COACH-OF-THE-YEAR SELECTIONS

Hello Coaches:

For some of you it may seem a bit strange to be talking about Coach of the Year before the season, well for Alabama which plays in the spring, we are nominating from 2007/2008 season.  We need to select our State Coaches of the Year, who will then go on to be nominated for Regional Coach of the year for 2008.

I guess you might want to know why I’m the Boys HS COY coordinator.  I was a Hoover High School coach for 7 years back in the late 1990’s and have been involved in NSCAA ever since.  So they have asked if I would serve in this role. It is an honor to promote high school soccer.

As in the past we will have a coach of the year for three categories:  Large Public Schools (5A and 6A), Small Public Schools (1A to 4A), and Private/Parochial Schools. Alabama’s COY process has not been well defined in the past.  There is a need to formalize the process to be much more wide spread and complete.  So for this year, let’s have everyone turn in your nominations and also suggestions on the best way to reach everyone in the state.  We have the option to define large and small schools and I have selected the above categories.  Do we all agree on this breakdown?

I need nominations for High School Boys coaches in each category.  I will enclose the forms that will have to be filled out, but a name and an email is sufficient for nominations at this point.  I will then need all the forms back by November 14th.  I will consult with other coaches and referees to determine the winners.  (It would be great to have a committee in the future)  The state winners must be in to the Regional Chairperson by November 26th.

Email me as soon as you can the completed form or just send me the coaches email address and I can forward it to them.  Also, if you feel like you have been on your game for a while nominate yourself!  Be proud you worked hard.

Joe Webb is helping me get the word out, so if you know of other coaches that need this information please pass along to them.

Yours in Soccer,
Ken Headley
