Upcoming Coaching Clinics
Last Updated May 06, 2008

One of the most important goals of the Alabama High School Soccer Coaches Association is the education of new coaches and the continuing education of veteran coaches.  On this webpage we will provide a notice of all upcoming coaching courses, conventions, seminars, symposiums, clinics and other educational opportunities.

NSCAA Courses

NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma in Tuscaloosa
     May 30 - June 1

There will be a National Soccer Coaches Association of American (NSCAA) Advanced Regional Diploma hosted in Tuscaloosa the weekend of May 30, 31 and June 1. It will take place at Tuskaloosa Nations Complex off of Watermelon Road (see attachment for directions). The course will run from Friday evening until Sunday afternoon.  The course takes 21 hours to complete and will be conducted by Jason Neuman, a USSF A licensed coach and certified instructor.

The NSCAA Advanced Regional Diploma is a great beginner course into a coaching education journey.  The NSCAA way of teaching coaching methodology is great for the beginner or a soccer veteran.  The class is distinctive from the USSF D as it deals primarily with technique in the first part and then changes gears and the last day is focused on systems of play up to 11 a side.  Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

Please sign-up with Zac Crawford.  Feel free to send the application (see attachment) and check to the address to: Zac Crawford, PO Box 20665, Tuscaloosa, AL 35402  [check will not be cashed until after the course has completed].

Applications can also be completed on the first day of the course.  The cost will be $90 and included will be a one year membership with the NSCAA (which includes a $1,000,000 liability policy for coaches).  This is a great opportunity to not only grow and learn, but also to become a part of the largest coaches association in the United States.

     Please help spread the word!

Advanced Regional Diploma (Course Description)

The Advanced Regional Diploma is a 21-hour course designed as a supplement to the Regional Diploma, adding eight hours devoted to technical and tactical uses of small-sided games, the study of systems of play and a practice teaching component.

Participants are given an opportunity to conduct a training session on an assigned topic and are assessed by the course instructor. All candidates must be at least 16 years of age at the time of application. If a candidate is under 18 years of age, an adult must accompany him or her for the duration of the course.

As of Jan. 1, 2006, any non-member who takes a non-residential course will receive a complimentary one-year NSCAA membership. This applies to NEW members only.

If you have any questions please contact Coach Zac Crawford, 205-292-5493 or  crawf041@bama.ua.edu           Download application here.

USSF Courses

Alabama Youth Soccer Association Courses:

Designed to meet the needs of today’s modern youth soccer coach, Alabama Youth Soccer has established a comprehensive Coaching Education Program that offers a USSF-approved curriculum of courses for the "Youth Module", "E", and "D" licenses. Through this effort, Alabama Youth Soccer provides:

• A program in which coaches can earn state and national coaching credentials
• A system which improves a coach’s knowledge of the game, methodology, and teaching methods
• Valuable information and current coaching trends state-wide, nationally, and internationally

The objective of the coaching licensing curriculum is to provide all soccer coaches, from the beginner to the advanced, with up-to-date theoretical and practical knowledge, so that coaches in Alabama can help ensure that players develop their fullest potential.

All courses are taught by Alabama Youth Soccer State Staff Coaches who hold a National Coaching License. "D" Clinic instructors hold either an "A" or "B" National Coaching License. Youth Module instructors hold a National Youth License. All courses must be scheduled through the Alabama Youth Soccer State Office. A list is maintained at the State Office and posted on our website. The "E" and "D" courses are also offered in Spanish. Individuals wishing to attend a course or clubs, leagues wishing to host a course may do so by contacting Alabama Youth Soccer.

The philosophy of the coaching program is to help you gain the most information from the courses, staff coaches teach the essentials of soccer in an optimal way. All candidates actively participate in field sessions. Approximately two-thirds of each course is comprised field sessions and the remaining one-third as lectures. The intensity of the field sessions is directly related to the level of the course. The higher the course, the more hours required on the field.
