To be a
concert pianist, you need a tuxedo, a grand
piano, a top notch agent, and many other
things, but it's all a waste without
technique. You have to be able to play
piano. Similarly, you need knowledge of the
game, tactics, etc., but it's all a waste if
you can't control the ball. Technique,
technique, technique. - Unknown

UAB
Boys' Soccer Camp
Residential and
Day Camps - throughout the month of June
2008
Dear Coach,
As the Head Coach of UAB Men's Soccer
program and the Director of the Mike Getman
Soccer Camp, I would like to recommend our
camp to you and your players. We have heard
from coaches time and again, how the players
who have been to our camp have come back
with their skills improved, their
understanding of the game increased and
their enthusiasm for the game renewed. I am sure you will agree that, being exposed
to a week of intensive training, challenging
competition, and Division I college
athletes, will show in improved play next
season. We hold four sessions of camp this summer.
Each session is designed for different
levels of play. We have a session that is
right for the most advanced player who is
looking to play in college; for the young
player who is just learning the basics of
the game; and for everyone in between. All
camps are staffed by qualified coaches who
can provide the highest level of
instruction. You and your players can get more
information from our website
www.uabsoccercamp.com . I hope you will
pass this information on to your players. If
you need brochures mailed or have any
questions, please let me know.

UAB
Girls' Soccer Camps
As
part of our continuing commitment to the
development of female soccer players, we are
offering five girls-only camps this summer;
Day Camp, Advanced Residential Camp, Elite
Residential Camp, Team Camp, and Goalkeeper
Camp.
Over the past 12 years, we have a developed
a soccer camp learning experience second to
none. Each summer we consistently have
campers who have attended high profile camps
across the country tell us that they’ve
never been to another camp as focused as
ours in helping them to achieve their goals.
The reasons for this are simple. First, we
hire experienced, enthusiastic coaches who
love to teach. At our Advanced, Elite, Team,
and Goalkeeper Camps, each team is assigned
a coach with college, professional or
National Team coaching experience. Each team
is also assigned a current or former college
player as an assistant coach. Then, rather
than planning the entire week of camp ahead
of time and try ing to fit everyone into
that set-up, we start with an intense,
thoughtful evaluation of the campers on the
first day of camp. From there, we tailor
that week’s camp to the specific group of
individuals attending. The organization of
our camp also allows and encourages input
from our staff coaches and campers
throughout the week so that we have an
ever-evolving product. As a coach, I am
always looking for new and innovative ideas
to supplement the training I do with my own
team and each summer it’s exciting to share
those ideas with others at our camp. We work
to challenge each camper as though they were
on our UAB team.
UAB women’s soccer has finished three of the
last five seasons as Conference USA
Champions. In 2004 we played two rounds into
the NCAA Tournament, barely missing a trip
to the Sweet Sixteen and concluded the
season with a 16-6-1 overall record and
ranked 28th in the country. In 2006, we made
another trip to the NCAA Tournament and p
layed in the first round after winning the
C-USA Conference Tournament.
In 12 seasons of competition, our team has
produced ten Academic All-Americans, 22
Regional Academic All-Americans, five
All-Americans, 15 Regional All-Americans, 55
All-Conference players, one Conference USA
Offensive Player of the Year, one Conference
USA Freshman of the Year, three Conference
USA Scholar Athlete’s of the Year, two NCAA
Post-Grad Scholarship winners and two Rhodes
Scholar Nominees. In addition to a Top 30
National Ranking, we have also been
consistently ranked in the Regional Top 10
for the past 12 seasons, playing many of the
nation’s top teams.
If you get a chance, please check out our
camp website at
www.uabsoccer.com This site should
answer most of your questions about the 2008
camps. I would appreciate it if you could
pass this information along to the coaches
and members of your leagues as their teams
continue to make their summer plans. If you
have other questions or would like us to
mail you a brochure, please feel free to
contact us at
uabsoccer@mac.com or (205) 934-4797.
We’d love to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Paul Harbin
