2009 "Pick Six" Contest
How well do you know your high
school soccer? Do you know which six
teams will win the 2009 Alabama state
championships?
Only one person,
Kimberly Samry, was able to pick five of the six winners. Her only
mistake was selecting Hoover instead of Fairhope.
Out of approximately
400 entries there were no perfect picks. Three of the
favorites won and the majority of the entries had those teams listed:
John Carroll Boys, Altamont Boys and Spain Park’s Girls. And in the
4A-1A Girls classification, Randolph was almost even odds with
Montgomery Academy and Altamont to win it all. The two big upsets were
in 6A boys where Hoover was the overwhelming choice and in 5A girls
where Briarwood was a prohibitive favorite. Sixteen people were
able to pick four out of the six winners. They were: Kyle Sherrin,
Thomas Sirna, Shane Dressback, John Obrien, Dean Johnson, Jonathan
Bearden, Ethan Belcher, Tom Sinclair, Tommy Arbet, Dylan Choiniere, W.
Peazy, Greg Brown, Derek Dearman, Anne Thiebert, R. Holcombe and Michael
Williford.

Mission Statement
The mission of the Alabama High School Soccer
Coaches Association is to foster the game of high
school soccer and to provide high school soccer
coaches and student athletes
the best opportunities for success and to give those
student athletes and coaches a voice in the
Alabama High School Athletic Association.
Vision
To promote high school soccer while
supporting the highest possible level of soccer in
Alabama.
Organizing Committee
(listed alphabetically) –
Joe Carter, Mike Fricke, Ken Gamble, Mac Matthews,
Steve Morisani, Mike Pline, and Joe Webb. The
first meeting of the Alabama High School Soccer
Coaches Association was Saturday January 5th in
Prattville, Alabama. Prattville was chosen for its
central location. A place and date for future
meetings will be announced
soon.
Membership
Open to all high school coaches.
We need a small membership fee. This will help
cover the costs of the website and start-up costs
and should be small
and probably cover a two year period initially. $20
is the initial suggested amount.
Future Issues
-
Provide and serve notice of coaching education
opportunities for Alabama High School coaches.
-
Put on coaching clinics and licensing courses
for high school coaches.
-
Work with AHSAA to provide the fairest possible

Acknowledgements Banquet with annual Alabama Mr.
& Mrs. Soccer awards. Also recognize coaches

Other Issues
Possible Goals:

framework of the AHSAA.

provide experience and guidance in soccer related issues.

growth has lagged.
